A Dog's Purpose (PG) 

Ethan and his dog Bailey are best friends. A Ethan grows into a young man Bailey is right by his side for the success, failure and pain of life. However this film, shows life through the eyes of man's best friend in a way that heightens our awareness and opens our hearts. Bailey is the main character going from one dog life to another, showing the depth of being a dog and why his life is so value to us humans. 

This is a heartfelt salute to the importance of pets and really animals. Expect to laugh and cry as your travel through the many lives of one special dog.

The Founder (PG-13)

Its based on the true story of how McDonald's evolved from one family-owned business to a multi-million dollar empire. Two brothers Dick and Mac McDonald's are the creators of the fast food business. However Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton) is the founder of McDonald's Corporation. Kroc is known for expanding the business. The film reveals the conflicts between the three and the growth of the business. Kroc is a character the you will love and hate at the same time. Yes, it was genius to expand the business but the tactics to do it were cold and borderline unethical. Its very entertaining and controversial.

Hidden Figures (PG)

Three African American women mathematicians, who work for NASA, find the missing link in calculations that are crucial to getting the space program into outer space, around the globe  and to the moon. This film is based on the true story of Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae). Though a critical moment in history, these three women and others are faced with intense opposition through discrimination and sexism before the can reach success, that was deeply embedded in American culture in 1961. From editing and music  to acting and direction, this movie is award winning. This movie will inspire, and educate, as yet another story of American history is revealed.

Split (PG-13)

Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy) suffers from a multiple personality disorder that makes him kidnap three teenage girls when his most sinister personality emerges. This movie is everything and more that you would expect from M. Night Shyamalan. The upside, this film is one of the more realistic scenarios, from Shyamalan. It allows you to become engaged by the suspense and horror of this story. The downside, there is a twist at the end, that makes you wonder if there will be a part two. Overall, McAvoy successfully dives into, one personality after another making the audience gasp at the shifts and want more because its so unbelievable. I expect there to be more dialogue about mental illness because of this film.

XXX: The Return of Xander Cage (PG-13)

Xander Cage defends the world with the rest of his triple X team when satellites begin falling out of the sky, destroying Earth. When it comes to acting, this is not the movie, but when it comes to action and great fight scenes, this movie delivers. This movie is purely entertainment, nothing else.

Underworld (R)

"Underworld" does not disappoint with action, adventure and blood. The series is back with Selene (Kate Beckinsale) the death dealer who has nothing to lose after the death of her lover and the disappearance of her daughter.
This time, Selene has to put an end to war between vampires and Lycans when she really just wants to live life alone.
This film is easy to follow, even if you didn't see the other four films before it. Expect bloody battles and an all-out war for power. Betrayal, love and lineage will be revealed in "Underworld Blood Wars".

Patriots Day (R)

Based on the true story of the Boston Marathon bombings, you will leave the theater in tears for the courage of those that survived, those that protected the community and those that died. "Patriots Day" blends produced re-enaactments with the surveillance and cellphone video that captures every aspect of this tragic day - enhancing the senses and making it even more real. Each actor transforms into their character, and forget you're even watching a movie. This film sharply depicts moments before, during and after that tragic day and the many heroes that emerged. MEVOE Grade: A+
