Southside With You (PG-13)

Based on the love story of the Obamas, this film gives a fresh perspective on where Barack and Michele's love began. It's 1989, and the future U.S. President Barack Obama is meeting his adviser Michele Robinson, the future first lady, for a community event. The film focuses on their first date as they travel through the southside of Chicago. Their story is engaging as you see a new portrayal of the Obamas. However, its weakness is variety. You will see the transformation from co-workers to lovers in its infancy and want more intimate deals on how their love grows. Despite knowing their love has a happy ending, you won't see the growth of their love, wedding, or political transformation. Overall, the fresh perspective is insightful and overall a good first-date movie. MEVOE Grade: B
